POSITION OVERVIEW

The Test Engineer develops procedures, methods and tools for test, verification and certification of the company’s products. The Test Engineer consults and collaborates with all internal and external customers as needed to accomplish this goal. The Test Engineer participates in all pre-manufacturing (prototype level) test activities, including setup, performing testing, troubleshooting non-compliance, and providing feedback to design and manufacturing personnel. The position is a mix of design, evaluation, clerical and hands-on work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop customized equipment to support company’s testing activities. Develop procedures and tools for testing, calibration and verification of said equipment.
  • Develop specific testing procedures and equipment configurations for the company’s products (e.g., electric motors, generators, actuators and other electromechanical or electronic devices). Assist with assembly, set-up and troubleshooting this equipment on prototype runs, perform actual testing of product, and establish (and maintain) appropriate documentation for the entire process (e.g., equipment records, UUT data, work instructions, etc.).
  • Ensure equipment and test procedures are suitable for the intended tasks and meet appropriate internal and external customer requirements. .
  • Participate in, assist with, or lead other activities or technical support scenarios within the organization, including but not limited to: Factory floor equipment or testing issues, RMA/root-cause analysis, customer consultations, other factory floor or QA initiatives.
  • Assist and train other team members as needed to enhance the total testing and evaluation skillset of the organization.
  • Lead activities related to set-up, programming, selection, and peripheral device communication for servo and other motor drives as needed. Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for test and design staff in this space.

REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • B.S. or higher degree in electrical or electronic engineering. (Other degree fields acceptable if accompanied by experience in electric-motor testing, servo-drive testing or servo-drive programming.)
  • Five-plus years’ experience in electric-motor testing, electronic-drive programming, or factory or lab automation.
  • Solid knowledge in electronics and/or electric-motor operational principles; analog, power and digital circuits. Specific knowledge of rotational feedback devices preferred (e.g., encoder, resolver, hall sensor, etc.).
  • Knowledge of general quality control principles and methodology.
  • Experience in developing test instructions, datasheets, operational procedures, equipment diagrams and schematics.
  • Background in metrology, servo-drive specific programming, National Instruments Lab-View DAQ, motor feedback devices, or other laboratory or power transmission-related disciplines will be considered.
